Privacy Policy (Customer App)

Applies to: Black Elm Coffee customer mobile app (“Order Ahead”)
Location sharing is optional. If you enable it, we store your last known location (not
continuous tracking) so store staff can estimate how far away you are and time preparation.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account & Contact
- Phone number (used to identify your account and secure updates)
- Name and email (optional)
1.2 Orders & Payments
- Order details (items, pickup store, pickup time)
- Payment status and identifiers from our payment processor (Square)
- Apple Pay — if you choose to pay with Apple Pay, payment is processed securely by Square through Apple's payment framework. We do not receive or store your card number; only a transaction token and payment confirmation are shared with us.
1.3 Loyalty
- Loyalty points and rewards associated with your account
1.4 Location (Optional)

What we store: your last known latitude/longitude and timestamp
1.5 SMS Verification

Phone number for SMS one-time passcode (OTP) verification

When collected: Only when you voluntarily enter your phone number in Settings and tap "Save"

What is sent: A single SMS containing a 6-digit verification code; no marketing or promotional content

Frequency: Varies by user action (typically 1-3 messages per account setup or security action)

Carrier data: Your phone number is transmitted to our SMS provider (Twilio) solely for message delivery. We do not share your phone number with third parties for marketing purposes.
2. How We Use Information
- Order ahead: create and manage pickup orders
- Customer support: help troubleshoot orders and payments
- Loyalty: show points and apply eligible rewards

Location (optional): estimate distance/ETA so staff can better time preparation
3. Sharing
- Service providers: we use Square for payments (including Apple Pay), and Supabase for backend services
- Store staff: if you enable Location Sharing, staff may see distance/ETA for active pickup orders
4. Your Choices

Location sharing: you can enable/disable in the app Settings at any time. If disabled, we stop updating
your location and clear stored coordinates.

SMS messages: you can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message, removing your phone number from Settings, or contacting support@blackelm.coffee. Reply HELP for assistance. Message and data rates may apply.
5. Data Retention
- Location: stored as last known location and updated when you use the app (while enabled)
- Orders: retained for operational and accounting purposes
